In Berlin, several apartments and rooms belonging to members of a left-wing radical women’s organization were searched on Wednesday morning. They allegedly advertised a Palestinian organization that was classified as terrorist.
Six apartments and two other rooms belonging to members of the Zora group were searched early on Wednesday, a police spokesman said. Zora members are said to have promoted the left-wing radical Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), which is classified as terrorist.
170 police officers on duty
The women’s group is accused of using symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations. Zora describes itself in an internet channel as a “young women’s organization” that is “anti-capitalist, internationalist, anti-fascist.”
According to a report in the newspaper “BZ”, 170 police officers were on duty in Berlin since early morning. Among the properties searched were a trendy café in Neukölln and an office.
“Sympathies for Hamas”
Six people were listed as defendants, five of whom are members of Zora. The police union (GdP) spoke of a “proximity between anti-Semites and left-wing radicals”. Spokesman Benjamin Jendro: “It is no secret that within the left-wing extremist spectrum there are different opinions about Palestine and also sympathies for Hamas. There can be no room for that in our democracy.”
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) was classified as a terrorist organization by the EU in 2002. It is said to be working with Hamas and the Lebanese Hezbollah, denying Israel’s right to exist and openly calling for armed struggle against Israel.
