Thus, UGT and CCOO have decided to postpone the call, announced for eight days of the Christmas period, following the Spanish executive’s offer to mediate in the conflict.

UGT and CCOO have decided to cancel the call for a strike by the workers of the ground handling services for aircraft and passengers (handling) of Iberia, announced for eight days of the Christmas period, following the Spanish government’s offer to mediate in the conflict.

Both unions held a series of talks with the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility this Wednesday to try to find a solution to the conflict, which arose after Iberia loses its handling license at eight airports in the final Aena match.

In a statement, the unions emphasize that the strike is postponed “an act of responsibility”, demonstrating their willingness to “reach the long-awaited agreement” thanks to the new negotiating framework with the intervention of the government. The meetings start this Thursday.

The unions have stated that this mediation by the Spanish government follows pressure from the same unions, which had decided to call off the strike after the “failed meetings” with Iberia. The strike was announced for the days mentioned between December 29 and January 1 and between January 4 and 7.

As explained by the unions, in the context of the negotiations with Iberia, the company proposed the creation of a company headed by the winning bidder of the tenders, with a majority stake of 80%, together with a minority company belonging to IAGit would Yellow handling. However, the unions believed that it was “illegal” not to comply with the Royal Decree relating to this issue.

Iberia lost the ground services operator license at Aena’s eight major airports in the airport manager competition, which concluded on September 26. This meant one heavy blow to the companywhich has appealed the bankruptcy and is keeping legal proceedings open to try to regain part of the company.

After the arrival of new operators, employees would be subrogated to these new successful companies. The unions began to fear that these actors would not be able to adhere to what had been agreed in the sector’s collective labor agreement deteriorating working conditions of these employees.
