“Action Sharp” by Police and Finance in Innsbruck: Several Asian restaurants in the Tyrolean state capital were closely scrutinized together with the food regulator, the labor inspector and the federal office for immigration and asylum. There were some reports and one arrest. A dishwasher from Sri Lanka, who is in the asylum procedure, wanted to flee – he was caught in the back door.
A total of eight companies were on the investigators’ radar and violations were discovered in three restaurants. “A total of three declarations were made under the Foreign Nationals Employment Act and five declarations under the General Social Security Act because there was no proper registration for social security,” the Ministry of Finance said on Wednesday.
In addition, complaints have been submitted to the Tax and Customs Administration and the Tax and Customs Administration, “since the cash register checks showed that the administration was not adequate and that the obligation to issue documents was not complied with.”
Dishwasher caught in decline
An illegally used dishwasher was found in a restaurant, according to investigators. “The 30-year-old man tried to flee at the start of the check, but was found immediately at the rear exit.” Reason for the flight: the man from Sri Lanka is in the asylum procedure, has no work permit and has therefore not been registered for social security.
In another restaurant, a 51-year-old Chinese chef was unmasked, who was also not registered with social security. Moreover, he did not have a labor market permit. “Due to his illegal residence, he was detained pending deportation and must leave Austria,” it said.
Minister: “Zero tolerance policy”
“Any form of fraud harms our location and honest businesses. Priority actions such as these underline our zero-tolerance policy towards these illegal machinations and we will continue to take decisive action in the future,” Treasury Secretary Magnus Brunner said.
