A truck driver in the US survived an incredible ordeal. After an accident, the man had to stay in his accident car for six days before he was discovered and rescued.
The driver was in an accident in Portage, Indiana. The wreck came to rest under an overpass, but the vehicle was not visible under the bridge.
Rescuers thought the accident victim was already dead
His mobile phone was in the driver’s cabin, out of his reach. It was only when two fishermen walked past the scene of the accident on Tuesday that the young man was discovered. When the two rescuers looked inside the vehicle, they initially thought he had already died. However, when they touched him to confirm their terrible suspicions, the man thought to be dead suddenly woke up and started talking.
“He had a jacket that looked almost like mine and all I saw was part of the shoulder. The moment I touched his shoulder he turned around. “He woke up,” one of the rescuers, Mario Garcia, described the moment to the American media.
The two fishermen immediately called 911 and probably saved the man’s life. The driver told the men he had been stuck in the wreck since last Wednesday. “One more day and it could have turned out very differently,” Garcia is convinced.
The victim suffered life-threatening injuries
Ultimately, it took emergency services several hours to free the 29-year-old from the wreckage. “It was very difficult for them to enter the creek area with their equipment to cut and remove it,” an official said. According to police, the victim suffered life-threatening injuries. He was flown to a trauma center.
The director said it was “a miracle” that the accident victim was still alive. The weather around Christmas this year was warmer and milder than normal.
