On foot to the operation – large-scale operation on Koralpe: ski hut was on fire

Date:

Major damage was caused by the fire in a ski hut on the Koralpe in Carinthia. Seven fire brigades responded to the “Ofenstubn” – on foot!

On the night of December 27, a fire broke out in the “Ofenstubn”, a managed ski hut on the Koralpe at the valley station of the Burgstallofenbahn. Shortly after midnight, a passerby reported the fire to the police.

More than 120 firefighters responded: they had to complete the last part of the journey on foot as access was not possible because the path was simply not designed for vehicles of this size.

The building was completely engulfed in flames. The flames, heat and smoke were enormous; Only after firefighting activities could the fire brigade search for possible victims in the building. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire. But enormous material damage will probably have been caused.

After about four hours, the fire brigade was able to extinguish the fire and three fire brigades were sent to the fire station.

Only in the autumn was the “Ofenstubn” taken over by new tenants. The tenant (47) left her restaurant on December 26 at 3:15 p.m. Nothing unusual had happened that could have led to the fire.

“The tenants have prepared everything so well. People have accepted the hut, which was designed with so much heart, so well. And now this,” complains hut owner Dietmar Riegler.

The fire team of the National Criminal Investigation Department will investigate.

Candle caused fire on balcony
Hours earlier, there had also been a fire in Ebenthal: on December 26 around 8:15 p.m., a forgotten candle on a balcony of an apartment building caused a fire. The 73-year-old woman who lived there noticed the flames and alerted the fire brigade. The Ebenthal and Zell-Gurnitz fire brigades were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
