Steyregg case – “Something like that cannot be swept away succinctly”

Date:

The incidents at the Steyregg asylum center made Upper Austria’s highest fire chief think. Because when ‘his’ people complain, it means something and the incidents cannot simply be ‘brushed away’.

“If our members, both women and men, feel uncomfortable or even threatened by the behavior of other people while on duty, this cannot simply be dismissed. You certainly don’t treat such statements carelessly.” State fire chief Robert Mayer finds clear words after the incidents in Steyregg, in which young men came too close to four firefighters at the asylum seeker’s home, provoked fourteen false deployments and allegedly threw Christmas tree balls at the helpers.
