A guest at the Breslauer Hütte (2,844 m) in Sölden, Tyrol, who actually wanted to start the new year there, suffered from altitude sickness and had to be taken to the valley immediately. A spectacular rescue operation followed.
On New Year’s Eve, an internal medical emergency occurred at the Breslauer Hütte in the municipality of Sölden. After the caller, a mountain rescue worker, was first contacted at around 9:10 p.m., it became clear that the patient needed to be transported from the hut at 2,844 meters above sea level as quickly as possible.
The mountain rescue came with ski touring
Since there are no emergency helicopters available at night in Tyrol, the Tyrol control center has alerted the Sölden mountain rescue service and mountain rescue doctors. The emergency team went to Vent and undertook the climb to the hut from the Stablein ski area on touring skis. After about 30 minutes, the mountain rescuers were able to reach the hut and provide initial care to the patient. We then went back to the ski area with the Akja and from there back to Vent.
Once there, the man was handed over to the alerted mountain rescue doctor and to the Sölden rescue team. At that time the New Year’s fireworks were in full swing.
