British intelligence reveals “serious tactical mistakes” by Russian troops on the front lines reflecting Kremlin’s “strategic mismanagement”
Russian troops continue their advance and direct their offensive against the Donbas region, three months after the start of the invasion. And this despite the “serious tactical failures”, according to British intelligence, committed by the airborne troops; a team of 45,000 troops, made up of elite-status professionals for which they receive additional compensation. They carry out the “heaviest operations” and suffered heavy casualties during the war. The failures, the Defense Ministry assured on Twitter, reflect Russia’s “strategic mismanagement”.
Tactical errors, the report reveals, include an attempt to attack Kiev via Gostomel airport in March; the offensive towards Izium has stalled since April; and the recent failed crossing of the Severski Donets River, which cost the Kremlin troops dearly. British intelligence attacks Moscow, pointing out that the misuse of Ukraine’s airborne troops shows how Vladimir Putin’s massive investment in his military over the past 15 years has made it “unbalanced”.
Still, the amount benefited Russia, as it was able to build up reserves more quickly. “We lost to their army in terms of pace. They were accumulating reserves before we did. We are lagging behind, which makes the situation at the front extremely difficult,” Oleksiy Arestovich, adviser to the Ukrainian presidency, said on Thursday. However, the number of Russian casualties has already reached 29,600, the armed forces confirmed.
The Russian advance continues and the fighting in the east of the country is reaching its “maximum intensity”. “We have a long and extremely difficult period ahead of us,” Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Ganna Malyar said, reiterating the previous day’s comments by Lugansk Governor Sergei Gaidai, who this Thursday reiterated that the attacks “are” constant, although his troops “hold”.
Moscow is trying to improve its tactical situation in Izium and resume the offensive in Sloviank, in addition to focusing its efforts on controlling Liman, Severodonetsk and Avdiivka, the Ukrainian army general staff said. Kiev authorities on Thursday denounced the deaths of six civilians – and injured 12 – as a result of Russian attacks in Donbas, where the invaders have already attacked 41 settlements. Hours earlier, Donetsk governor Pavlo Kirilenko reported the deaths of four other civilians. According to the UN, about 4,000 civilians have been killed and more than 4,600 injured so far, most of them in Donbas.
The Kremlin called on Kiev to “recognize the real situation on the battlefield” and accept its demands to end the conflict. But his opinion is not shared. This is the case with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who predicted that Putin will not win the war. It has not yet achieved any of its strategic objectives. The conquest of all of Ukraine is further away today than at the beginning of the invasion,” he said.
