According to a report, the Lebanese Hezbollah militia has a more advanced tunnel system than Hamas. The underground routes ran for hundreds of kilometers in the south of the country, all the way to the border with Israel, the Times of Israel newspaper reported on Tuesday.
She referred to intelligence expert Tal Beeri, who has been investigating the Shiite militia’s tunnel network for years based on publicly available information. In 2018, the Israeli military discovered and destroyed a Hezbollah “cross-border attack tunnel” under the Israel-Lebanese border during Operation Northern Shield (see video above). “This is the first tunnel we have found (…), then we will go to other tunnels, we know they exist,” a spokesperson said at the time.
Firing precision weapons?
There are tunnels that Hezbollah could use to launch precision weapons, Beeri told the newspaper. The system is actually “more sophisticated” than Hamas’s. Hezbollah has ties to Hamas, but is considered much more powerful.
The Israeli army has been waging war against the terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip since the massacre by Hamas and other extremist groups in Israel on October 7. To do this, Hamas uses its network of tunnels, where, according to Israeli information, many of the terrorists are hiding and are also holding hostages from Israel.
The military has already uncovered and destroyed some of the extensive tunnels. Since the situation on the border with Lebanon came to a head, Hezbollah’s underground system has been discussed again.
