The ruler of the autonomous Russian republic of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, repeatedly called the “bloodhound” because of his cruelty, simply wants to hold their families responsible if no more criminals are found in the future. Centuries ago it was common for relatives to be punished if the criminal could not be caught. “Then they simply killed his brother or father,” Kadyrov raged.
As you know, you cannot look behind the scenes. But on paper, the feared Ramzan Kadyrov seems like a real family man – albeit with certain quirks. He is said to be the proud father of twelve children and, contrary to Russian law, has a concubine in addition to his wife, whom he is said to have met during a beauty pageant. Maybe Chechens don’t take monogamy so seriously. But he seems to have very strict ideas about what should happen to a family if one of the members commits a crime.
“Any attempt to attack another person’s life has an impact on the perpetrator’s family. Close relatives must know what a member of their family is doing and take responsibility for it,” the Chechen ruler announced at a meeting with commanders and department heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Guard. Kadyrov posted a recording of the meeting on his Telegram channel:
‘We won’t look for the perpetrator for long’
“If an employee notices or even imagines even the slightest danger, he must immediately monitor it. It doesn’t matter who or whose child it is. If someone attacks public security, an employee or a tourist and we don’t find the perpetrator, we won’t look for him or her for long. But we will definitely find a family member (…). We will then take blood revenge as soon as possible,” the opposition Telegram channel “1ADAT” quotes from the angry speech.
Don’t let the youth be ‘zombified’
Kadyrov also wants to involve criminals who do not share the country’s ideology. He is especially afraid of influences from abroad: “If someone believes that he has the right to zombify our youth far away from national borders (in Russia the word is often used to describe ‘brainwashing’, take note), then he is seriously mistaken.”
But what happens to the surviving relatives who have no contact with the criminal? Kadyrov also has a ‘solution’ for this: the family will not be freed from the blood feud. “Otherwise someone kills someone and gets away with it and his relatives start distancing themselves from him. “But exclusion from the family makes no sense as long as we don’t kill family members,” the ruler continued to threaten.
Trusted doctor buried alive
It is not the first time that Kadyrov has called for murder. In October, for example, he suggested that law enforcement authorities fire on demonstrators during unauthorized demonstrations. The Chechen leader is also said to have buried alive the country’s deputy prime minister, who was also said to have been his doctor. Rumor has it that he blamed the doctor for the deterioration of his health and that the doctor paid for it with a particularly terrible death.
