The Muslim cleric died on Wednesday morning from his injuries following the gun attack in front of a mosque in the American state of New Jersey.
According to prosecutors, several shots were fired at the imam in the city of Newark, near New York, on Wednesday morning.
The man died from his injuries after being taken to hospital.
No evidence of racist motives
New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin said the motive for the crime remains unclear. However, the evidence collected so far shows no evidence of racist motives or “domestic terrorism.”
