Blue skies and fantastic temperatures: Many residents and tourists throughout Tyrol also took advantage of the beautiful January weather for skiing on Thursday. However, for several winter sports enthusiasts, the beautiful day ended in the hospital.
Two serious skiing accidents occurred on the Wiedersbergerhorn in the municipality of Alpach on Thursday afternoon. Around 1:45 p.m., a 47-year-old German and a previously unknown man collided with their skis. “Although the skier appears to have been uninjured, the 47-year-old suffered an injury to her upper arm,” police said. The woman received first aid from the pister rescue team and was taken to the district hospital in Kufstein.
Girls crashed together
More than an hour later, the pister rescuers were called again. A collision took place between two German girls (12 and 13 years old). Although the 12-year-old was unharmed, the 13-year-old suffered significant injuries and, after receiving initial care, was flown by emergency helicopter to hospital in Schwaz.
Holidaymaker seriously injured her knee
Almost simultaneously, a skiing accident occurred in the Sölden ski area between a 48-year-old German woman and a previously unknown skier. “The woman was skiing about 50 meters above the mountain station of the “Mini-Giggi” tow lift when a 10-year-old boy touched the woman,” the director said. The holidaymaker fell and suffered a serious knee injury. The young skier apologized to the woman but continued his journey. The 48-year-old was taken to the valley by the snow rescue team after first aid.
