The ISIS attack in Iran took place amid dangerous tensions in the Middle East. Israel is Iran’s arch-enemy and was initially suspected – like the US – of being behind the attack.
As reported, the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS) has now claimed responsibility for the devastating attack in the Iranian city of Kerman, which left 84 dead and 284 injured. The group explained this through the usual propaganda channels. Two assassins detonated their explosive belts during mourning events on the anniversary of the death of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani. It was the deadliest attack in the Islamic Republic’s 45-year history. Already in October 2022, IS carried out a terrorist attack in Iran, killing more than a dozen people.
The Iranian government initially avoided assigning blame. However, hardliners suspected Israel and the US of being behind the attack. Religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Ebrahim Raisi announced a decisive response.
“Problems with jihadist terrorist groups”
German terrorism expert Peter R. Neumann wrote on Platform X that Iran has much bigger problems with jihadist terrorist groups than is generally known. There have been repeated attacks for years, even though they are often swept under the rug.

Observers now fear an escalation of the conflict throughout the Middle East. As reported, a senior Hamas leader was reportedly killed by an Israeli drone in the middle of a Hezbollah stronghold in the Lebanese capital Beirut on Tuesday. Hezbollah circles said Thursday that he was killed in an apartment that Hamas has long used as an office. Israeli surveillance drones were reportedly spotted in the vicinity of the office on Tuesday morning. Hamas has several locations in Lebanon.
Hezbollah: “War with us is very expensive”
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nassrallah announced a strong response after the assassination of the terrorist organization’s leader (see video above). If Israel goes to war with Lebanon, “there will be no limits to Hezbollah’s fight.” A ‘war with us will be very costly.’ Anyone who goes to war against Lebanon will “regret it” because Hezbollah “will fight to the end,” he said. Hezbollah is supported by Iran and in turn supports Hamas.
