Our neighbors have not given their head of government a good report: according to a new survey, only about one in five people (19 percent) in Germany are satisfied with Olaf Scholz’s work. This is the lowest value in an Infratest survey (name of opinion research institute, note) for a Chancellor since 1997.
German Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) and Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) are doing only slightly better. Nearly one in four people (24 percent) is satisfied with Habeck’s work, while 23 percent are satisfied with Lindner. CDU leader Friedrich Merz is not doing any better either. He loses two percentage points, but with 30 percent he is far behind Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD, 51 percent). This almost puts him on par with Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens, 31 percent).
82 percent are dissatisfied with government work
This result also reflects dissatisfaction with the entire government work. 82 percent of the 1,321 respondents are less or not at all satisfied with the coalition of SPD, Greens and FDP. 17 percent of voters said the opposite.
If there were federal elections next Sunday, the Union would win (31 percent). The AfD would win (up to 22 percent), the Greens would lose slightly (up to 13 percent). The FDP would gain one percentage point (five percent), the left would miss out on joining the Bundestag (four percent). The Germans do not agree on whether the traffic light government will last this year.
Respondents selected at random
For the ARD Germany trend, the opinion research institute infratest dimap interviewed 1,321 voters by telephone and online. However, these were selected at random, making the result not representative. The fluctuation range is two to three percentage points.
