After several damages were discovered to a gas pipeline in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, the federal prosecutor’s office is now investigating suspected sabotage.
Several media had reported that small holes had been drilled in the pipe. The line, which is not yet in operation, is intended to feed gas from the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Brunsbüttel (Dithmarschen district) to the national network.
Controversial project: protests by climate activists
The 55 kilometer long line is said to have been damaged in at least three places. The LNG pipeline was originally scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023, but completion was repeatedly postponed – partly due to protests from climate activists. According to Spiegel, unknown suspects are currently being investigated.
