With the doors open and the engine still running, a bus driver simply parked his public transport vehicle on Wiener Landstrasse during the break.
When Christian S. was on his way home in the Landstrasse district on Wednesday evening, he was surprised. In the middle of the Neu Marx stop was a bus of route 80A – both passenger doors were open and the engine was not running. But there was no bus driver in sight.
During the break
He spent his break on a bench in the station and was busy with his smartphone. It would be unimaginable if someone had tried to steal the bus. “How can that be? The driver wouldn’t even have had the chance to intervene. Why does he leave the engine running for no reason?” says Mr. S. indignantly.
A ‘bus theft’ has already caused a stir. A trade unionist from the Vienna line pointed out safety shortcomings in the company that could pose a danger to the public – we reported.
Line 80A is operated by the Gschwindl company. These operate on behalf of the Wiener Linien. The company was contacted immediately. However, no damage occurred in this incident. “When leaving the driving position or standing for a long time, the bus engine must be switched off,” it reads. Gschwindl immediately took appropriate disciplinary action.
