Police in Lower Austria have arrested a suspected arsonist. The 42-year-old is suspected of setting fire to a car and a parasol in front of a bar in Bad Vöslau. He is also said to have damaged the building itself and the vans. In total, this resulted in material damage of 35,000 euros.
On May 30 last year, shortly after midnight, a parasol and a restaurant van caught fire just 300 meters away. The vehicle caught fire and according to the Lower Austrian State Police, a vehicle parked next to the vehicle was also a total loss.
Stone thrown at restaurant window
On the night of July 9, a stone was thrown against a window of the restaurant. According to police, one of the company’s vans was damaged again shortly afterwards. Two windows were smashed with a stone.
According to police, the cars did not have markings that would indicate a connection to the restaurant. There was therefore a suspicion that the same perpetrator with close ties to the restaurant or its manager was at work. The investigation was carried out by the criminal investigation group of the Bad Vöslau police station in cooperation with a district fire investigator from the Pottendorf police station and the fire brigade group of the State Criminal Investigation Department of Lower Austria.
Suspect lives next door
The 42-year-old who was ultimately identified lives in an apartment complex next to the restaurant. According to state police, evidence was found and seized during a search on behalf of the Wiener Neustadt Public Prosecutor’s Office. He was reported to the Wiener Neustadt public prosecutor’s office.
