Second day of strike by Iberia handling staff

Iberia’s ground handling staff have declared a strike until January 8. During the first day of the strike, this Friday, 75% of monitoring was recorded at Bilbao airport, according to the company, and 100% according to employees.

In concrete terms, 18 Iberia flights have been canceled at Loiu airport, of which 9 departures and 9 arrivals. In the case of Hondarribia Airport, a total of 16 flights have been suspended, of which 8 are departures and 8 are arrivals. Finally, in Noain there were 14, 7 departures and 7 arrivals flights affected.

During the first day of the strike, next Friday, there were 75% monitoring at Bilbao airport, according to the company, and 100%, according to the employees. The unions in turn increase this percentage to one hundred percent of employees who are not assigned to a minimum service, almost 90 percent. In addition to delays in operations, several planes took off without suitcases.

Financial compensation

From Facua-Consumers in Action they recall that passengers are entitled to financial compensation and payment of the costs incurred by this change in their plans, although they point out that the airlines are not obliged to pay these compensations. if the cancellation has been announced at least two weeks in advance.

Compensations will vary between 250 and 600 eurosdepending on the distance that the canceled flight has to travel and which can be reduced by half if the airline offers alternative transport that in no case lasts longer than four hours.
