In the context of this event, Urkullu stated that the new energy roadmap sets the agenda for all countries in the world and that, in this sense, the Basque Country is committed to new energy sourcesthe clean fuelsthe decarbonisation projects and the circular economy “We are determined to be at the forefront of the energy transition,” he said.

For example, Urkullu has confirmed that Euskadi plays an important role on the road to “net zero” as an area of ​​high economic and industrial potential within Europe. And he recalled that the Basque Country has industrial and energy infrastructures to launch decarbonisation initiatives, such as the Port of Bilbao and the Port of Pasaia; the gas pipeline network with a terminal for non-liquefied gas or a mature electricity network.

He also recalled the Basque government’s three targets for climate neutrality by 2050, including a 45% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030; achieve a 20% renewable energy mix; and positions the Basque Country in the top four European countries in terms of energy efficiency.

De Lehendakari has assured that there is still a long way to go and has opted for “shared responsibility and the joint effort of public authorities and private initiative”.
