In England, a man wanted to sell a walking stick that supposedly belonged to Queen Elizabeth II. The 26-year-old posed as a Windsor Castle employee on a sales platform. He also falsely claimed that the money would go to cancer research.
The Public Prosecution Service said on Tuesday that interested parties had bid up to 540 pounds (the equivalent of about 630 euros). The fraudster had stated that the late monarch had used the cane in her last years. He is an employee of Windsor Castle and will donate the money to cancer research.
40 hours of unpaid work
When the 26-year-old realized that the police were investigating, he closed the offer. A court in Southampton sentenced him to 40 hours of unpaid work, and he must also pay a fine of around £600 (the equivalent of almost €700).
