Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Lithuania for talks. In the coming days, Zelenskyi plans to travel to the other two NATO countries, Latvia and Estonia, to thank them for their “uncompromising support for Ukraine.”
“Our reliable friends and main partners are Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia,” Zelensky wrote on the Telegram platform. His talks in Vilnius, Tallinn and Riga should also focus on “security, integration into the EU and NATO”. Specific content includes cooperation in electronic warfare and drones, as well as coordination of European aid.
Zelenskiy landed in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius on Wednesday and was greeted at the airport by Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis. The Ukrainian head of state was last in Lithuania in July 2023, when he took part in the NATO summit and gave a public speech to thousands of people. During his current visit, he and his colleague Gitanas Nauseda also want to address the people of the country. Talks with the political leadership and a meeting with Ukrainian war refugees are also planned.
The governments of Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia are among Ukraine’s strongest supporters. For example, they are pressing internationally for EU sanctions against the Kremlin and for arms supplies to the Ukrainian army. They also provide military, financial and humanitarian support to the warring country.
