It is certainly not good news – but it is at least reassuring for dog owners in Villach: as the autopsy of the murdered four-legged friend “Sam” showed, he was probably not cut up by a crazy animal hater, but “only” for killed by a hit-and-run driver.
The autopsy report of the veterinarian specially commissioned by the city of Villach is available to the “Krone” – and the photo of the four-legged friend’s injuries undoubtedly reads terribly. Yet the doctor comes to the conclusion that it could not have been a knife attack on ‘Sam’. “The externally visible tear in the abdominal wall is certainly the result of a blunt, external force. A cut or stab wound is excluded.”
The experienced doctor has a different assessment: “In summary, the injuries are most likely related to a car accident in which the pelvis must have been run over,” according to the autopsy report. In other words: the four-legged friend who was waiting for his owner was hit or run over on Dorfstrasse in Ortisei by a motorist who simply left the dying “Sam” behind and committed a collision without reporting.
Dog owners have peace of mind
Now at least the owners in the Netherlands have a sad certainty – even if their beloved four-legged friend will no longer survive. But they now know that ‘Sam’ wasn’t tortured to death by some crazy animal hater. And thanks to medical information, dog owners in Villach no longer have to worry about possible further attacks.
1000 euro reward for information
The sympathy of animal lovers at the tragic death of the four and a half year old mixed breed dog was and is in any case great. A donor contacted ‘Pfotenhilfe’, among others, and offered a reward of 1,000 euros for information about the alleged dog killer. It is still unclear whether the ‘bonus’ will also be paid for the investigation into the driver who was hit.
