In the State Hospital of Mistelbach (Lower Austria), quick action was needed when a burst pipe caused the heating in a wing of the building to fail on Thursday evening. There are also two intensive care units in “House A” – five patients were “relocated” to other clinics while repair work was carried out.
It was initially not clear how long the repair work, which started immediately due to the outside temperature of minus two degrees, would take. Therefore, five patients from intensive care units who were in critical condition were immediately transferred to other hospitals.
Children were transferred to another department
The residents of the children’s department were also “moved” for safety reasons, but only to another department within the building. Power supply was unaffected by the damage and patient care was never compromised.
The burst pipe was repaired during the night. To be on the safe side, the damage in the system will be further investigated on Friday and the heating system will be subjected to an extensive inspection.
