A young husky escaped on December 26 while walking on the Rax in Lower Austria. 17 days later “Yukon” is finally back home.
As we all know, hope dies last. This saying applies to the story of ‘Yukon’, a four-year-old husky from the Wiener Neustadt district. On St. Stephen’s Day, the male ran away during a walk in Mittagstein in Hirschwang an der Rax in the Neunkirchen district. They searched day and night for the dog for more than two weeks. The police, hunters and mountain rescue services were also informed.
On January 12, mistress Eva-Maria Mandani received the good news: “Yukon” was spotted near Edlach! Rescuer Berni finally managed to lure the exhausted husky into the car. The owner immediately went to her four-legged friend. “I don’t think he could have held on much longer,” she says.
“Yukon” lay in the vehicle with tunnel vision in his eyes and was completely starved. “I called his name and scratched him. Then he recognized me, immediately licked me and wagged his tail,” says the owner.
“Yukon” has finally been back home since Friday evening. After 17 days on the Rax, the husky is limping a bit, but appears to have no other injuries. “We are very happy that he is back with us and that we have not given up hope yet!” says Mandani happily.
