Police arrested a suspected duo of thugs in East Tyrol after they stole a motorcycle, and the next day (!) the men were arrested in their next raid. The public prosecutor explains why no pre-trial detention took place in this case.
Caught stealing again the next day. It is believed that this brutality will land him in jail. In the specific case in East Tyrol, things were – as reported – different.
Van full of clearly stolen goods
First of all: on Friday, an East Tyrolean woman (45) was warned by a neighbor in broad daylight. A suspicious vehicle drives through the settlement. In the garage, the woman then notices that the (unregistered) motorcycle that was parked there has disappeared. The local woman searches her car for the fugitives and actually comes across the van. The police intervened; In addition to the motorcycle, new ski jackets, two pairs of skis, etc. were found in the van – probably stolen goods. The prisoners – two Hungarians (29 and 56 years old) – are said to be free.
Caught again three kilometers further on
The surprise just one day later: on Saturday at 12.18 pm the same men were spotted stealing again, this time in Leisach, less than two miles away. Neighbors alert the police and the suspected thieves are caught. The duo previously stole a steamer from an open extension and two bicycles, a chainsaw and a grass trimmer were also found in the vehicle. As planned, the local police contacted the weekend journalism service of the Innsbruck public prosecutor’s office. Decision: new report in broad terms, no pre-trial detention.
How can that be? Julia Klingenschmid, deputy spokeswoman for the Public Prosecution Service, says: ‘We assess such cases on the basis of telephone conversations with the police. “.
It wasn’t commercial yet
Second: According to the law, one speaks of “commercial” theft only after the third incident. And the Hungarians had no prior convictions. Furthermore, if the threat of punishment is less than six months, the reason for the prison sentence is that there is no risk of committing a new crime. The duo will have to justify it themselves – whether this is really tangible – but they drove away first!
