Two earthquakes were measured in Tyrol on Thursday night. Initially a quake struck shortly before 11pm, about four miles south-west of Waidring, and a slightly stronger tremor was eventually felt around 1.42am. No damage occurred. GeoSphere Austria requests reports.
The first earthquake in the St. Johann in Tirol region caused a tremor as early as 10:47 p.m. Six kilometers south-west of Waidring the seismograph showed a magnitude of 2.2. “Some people around the epicenter felt it clearly and perceived it with a rumbling from the subsurface,” said seismologist Sophie Authried from Geosphere Austria. There was no damage to buildings. This is not to be expected given this strength.
A second earthquake a little later
Shortly before 2 a.m., the earth shook again in the same area. This time a magnitude of 3.3 shook the area. “In the epicentral area, the shaking was sometimes clearly palpable in the form of shaking and rocking. Some people are afraid,” the seismologist said.
GeoSphere Austria is asking anyone who felt the earthquakes to come forward and fill out the perception form. This is available here.
