Trump After Massacre – ‘Should Civilians Arm For Existence Evil’

Date:

After the Texas school massacre, former US President Donald Trump defended the often lax gun laws in the US. “The existence of evil is one of the very best reasons to arm law-abiding civilians,” Trump said Friday night in Houston, Texas at the annual meeting of the powerful gun lobby NRA. Armed guards and teachers could prevent such horrific acts, he explained.

“The fact is, there will always be sick and demonic souls who want to harm the innocent and see evil triumph over good,” Trump said in his address. “Cynical politicians” would try to take advantage of crying families to increase their own power and curtail constitutional rights. They would advance their “extreme political agenda,” the ex-president ranted at the National Rifle Association (NRA) meeting.

Biden calls for tougher gun laws
After the massacre in which an 18-year-old shot 19 schoolchildren and two teachers, US President Joe Biden clearly called for tougher gun laws. Trump argued that the reason for such acts was mental health problems and broken families. He called for metal detectors and an armed guard for every school in the United States. “New technologies” must ensure that no unauthorized persons can enter the school with a weapon. Teachers should also be allowed to carry guns, the former president said.

As for funding, Trump delivered a dig in Ukraine. “If the United States can send $40 billion to Ukraine, we should be able to do everything we can to protect our children at home,” he said. Trump called the massacre a “cruel and barbaric atrocity” by a “runaway madman”.

Some speakers refused to attend the event
After the horrific massacre, some speakers canceled their attendance at the NRA meeting. The arch-conservative governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, stopped speaking in person, but sent out a video statement — and several country musicians canceled the performance at a concert scheduled for Saturday night. The manufacturer of the assault rifle with which the 18-year-old caused the massacre – the Daniel Defense company – also declined to participate in the NRA conference.
