Due to an emergency situation, a father wanted to help his supposed descendants. But the money only went to fraudsters. The victims fell for the criminals’ trick twice.
These are actually simple insults that should have been known by now. And yet criminals always manage to take money from their victims’ pockets. Sometimes even a lot of money, as shown in a recent case from a small town on the Danube in the Krems district.
A 64-year-old received a text message there. Apparently from his daughter. She has a new mobile phone and urgently needs financial help to get started in her new job. After several messages on WhatsApp, the man finally agreed. He deposited no less than 35,000 euros into a total of three Austrian accounts. Only then did he call his daughter on the familiar number – and then realized that he had been deceived.
A similar case in the Waldviertel
A woman from the Waldviertel fared only slightly better. She received a message from her alleged son. He urgently needs money because his account has been frozen. The woman transferred a total of 8,400 euros to two accounts. She also filed a complaint when it was already too late.
