“The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” the former US president said in his address to the audience at the National Rifle Association’s annual convention.

Former US President Donald Trump appeared this Friday as a star in the National Rifle Association (NRA) Annual Conventionwhere he strongly defended the weapons, just three days after the shooting that killed 19 children and two teachers at a school in Uvalde, Texas.
Trump stuck to the Republican script by attributing the massacre to the… attacker’s mental healthan 18-year-old named Salvador Ramos, and attacked “the grotesque efforts” of Democrats for greater control over arms purchases.
“The gun control policies promoted by the left would have done nothing to prevent the horror that has taken place. Absolutely nothing,” the former president said, speaking at the convention center in Houston, Texas, 450 kilometers from the massacre site. “The monster who committed this crime is pure evil, pure cruelty, pure hatred,” he added.
Trump’s solution continues installing metal detectors at school entrances, strengthening door armor, some access points in schools, including surveillance, and allowing teachers to use weapons in places that are not visible, but by no means limit access to guns because, he said, “the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”
While Trump was giving this speech, those in attendance were, of course, prohibited from carrying weapons, as a security measure.
Joe Biden after Texas shooting: “When are we going to stand up to the gun lobby?”
Tuesday’s massacre has reopened the perpetual gun debate in the United States. A discussion that always ends in the same: the Second Amendment to the Constitutionenshrines the right of Americans to own guns and a slim majority in Congress.
The President of the United States, Joe Bidenhas called for “standing up” against the gun lobby, and Democrats want to promote background check laws for gun buyers, but for Republicans the problem is mental health and safety in schools.
Thousands of people protest NRA convention
Meanwhile, thousands of people have gathered in front of the Houston Convention Center to pprotest at the National Rifle Association’s annual conference.
Participants carried placards with messages such as “Ban assault rifles now,” “When are you going to love your kids more than guns?” and “Assault rifles are for murder.”
