Reinhard Mittermair, born in Salzburg, has been heading the surgical department of the Klagenfurt Clinic for ten years. The passionate doctor has already achieved a lot during his professional career. In an interview, the youngest professor of surgery in Austria and former ÖSV team doctor talks about progress, robotic operations and the lack of care.
“Kron”:Professor Mittermair, is this how you imagined your role as chief doctor in Klagenfurt?
Reinhard Mittermair: Well, everything went better than expected. The support from the clinic’s head doctors and Kabeg was excellent. This allowed us to establish an abdominal and pancreatic tumor center in a very short time. The role as boss, challenging and supporting employees, has always been an important aspect for me. Of course I was and am strict, but anyone who follows my motto “How do you want to be treated, how do you want to treat your mother” will have a very good life.
