A family in Krumegg, Styria, has lost their five-year-old son: after the heavy blow of fate, the local fire brigade launched a fundraising campaign to support the relatives in the unimaginably difficult times.
Last Wednesday, five-year-old Joni was buried under a mudslide while walking through the forest. The little boy had no chance of survival; he was buried under 200 tons of earth. An incredible blow for the young family, who only recently moved back to their hometown.
Now the local fire brigade – many members dug in the earth with their bare hands for the buried child – has started a fundraising campaign. “We wish the young family a lot of strength in these difficult times. Our thoughts are with you,” it says on their website.
Great sympathy
Commander Christoph Rosenberger, still shocked by this accident, is overwhelmed by the sympathy of the population. “In the first three hours after we set up the donation box in the armory, the parking lot was consistently full.”
The donation account will remain open until Friday. “Then we will close it,” Rosenberger said.
