Death on the rails – Wolf run over by train in Vorarlberg

Date:

For the first time, a wolf has died in a natural accident in Vorarlberg. In Nenzing, a young animal tried to cross the rails on Saturday night – and the four-legged friend was hit by a train.

According to ORF Vorarlberg, it was originally reported that there was a dead deer on the rail. When a hunter took up the case, it was immediately clear to him that the accident victim was a very rare guy – there was actually a dead wolf there.

For the first time in Vorarlberg
Master Isegrim has been back home in the Ländle for several years now and individual specimens have been repeatedly identified from photographs, although no dead animal has ever been found.

The carcass will now be sent to the Research Institute for Wildlife Science at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, where it will be examined in detail. However unusual the case may be, accidents involving wild animals are generally on the agenda in Vorarlberg.

Hardly any solutions
Almost the entire country is crisscrossed by busy traffic routes, and there are hardly any diversions for wild animals on their migrations – there is not a single green highway intersection in Vorarlberg.
