Remarkable paragliding accident on Sunday in the Tyrolean Pitztal: a 25-year-old German hit a fence of the slope because the altitude was too low and got stuck there with his skis. The pilot then fell to the ground and suffered significant injuries.
This is certainly not how the 25-year-old German had imagined his paragliding flight: On Sunday around noon, the man took off with his umbrella from the Grubenkopf in the Rifflsee ski area in the municipality of St. Leonhard im Pitztal. According to the police, the pilot wanted to fly north in the Taschachtal and land at the parking lot of the Rifflseebahn. But it shouldn’t get to that point.
Caught in fence – crash
The height above the Taschachalm was clearly too low, because the 25-year-old crashed into an approximately two-meter-high piste barrier and got stuck with his skis.
By helicopter to the hospital
The young man then fell three meters onto the slope and suffered injuries to his hip and back. He was flown to hospital in Zams by emergency helicopter.
