At least eight people have been killed in Russian missile attacks on Ukraine. In the major eastern city of Kharkiv alone, seven deaths and more than fifty injuries were reported on Tuesday. According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, several cars caught fire in Kiev due to falling debris (see video above).
More than twenty people in the capital were injured. A woman was resuscitated and taken to intensive care with serious injuries. An unexploded rocket explosive device was also discovered in an apartment. The entire house has now been evacuated. According to Commander-in-Chief Valeriy Zalushnyi, all Russian missiles that approached over Kiev were shot down. Several explosions were heard in the center on Tuesday morning. Nationally, however, only half of all 41 missiles were intercepted during morning attacks.
Seven deaths and more than fifty injuries were reported from Kharkiv in the east on Tuesday. According to the mayor, a multi-storey residential building was affected and water and electricity supplies were lost in one district. A woman also died in Pavlohrad, Dnipropetrovsk region. Air warnings had again been declared across the country.
Polish soldiers on standby
Meanwhile, Polish forces said they were on standby due to the attacks. Jet fighters from our own air force and from allies had taken off over Poland. This has happened in the past with violent air raids on Ukraine, and there have been reports of this for several weeks.
