Kiev has asked the West to provide modern, multi-range, long-range missile launchers to fight against Russia. “It is difficult to fight when you are attacked from a distance of 70 kilometers and you have nothing to defend yourself with,” said Mykhailo Podoliak, adviser to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. However, he accused Moscow of “new terror” (see video above) after attacks on Ukrainian sites.
“If the West really wants Ukraine to win, maybe it’s time to give us MLRS?” Podoliak wrote on Twitter on Saturday. Ukraine could bring Russia “behind the Iron Curtain”. “But for that we need effective weapons. Here and now,” he tweeted (see tweet below).
Washington considers delivery
The US government is reportedly considering sending advanced long-range missile launchers to Ukraine. The MLRS and HIMARS artillery systems could fire projectiles up to 300 kilometers away, the broadcaster CNN reported Thursday, citing several officials. A new military aid package could be announced as early as next week.
Another presidential adviser, Oleksiy Arestovich, advocated the provision of Harpoon missiles (pictured above) that could be used to attack ships. This would allow Ukraine to break the Russian blockade of the seaports, Arestovich was quoted on Saturday by the Unian agency.
Zelenskyy accuses Russia of “new terror”.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of “new terror”. It involved “pointless, barbaric attacks” with rockets and mortars, he said in a video address on Saturday – calling on “the world” to “finally officially classify Russia as a terrorist state, as a sponsor of terrorism”. According to authorities, several civilians have been killed or injured in attacks on Ukrainian sites.
The Ukrainian army said it had repulsed Russian attacks. 33 “occupiers” were killed and six armored vehicles destroyed. The information is not independently verifiable. Especially the city of Sievjerodonetsk in the Donbass was heavily fought over.
