Excitement in Ukraine: Semen use after death should be allowed

Date:

Ukrainian MPs have submitted a bill to parliament that aims to overturn a ban on the use of frozen sperm or eggs from killed soldiers. There has recently been massive opposition to the current legal situation.

“The wave of public outrage will hopefully convince parliament to vote in favor of the law,” said parliament vice-president Olena Kondratyuk. The Ministry of Health also stated that it is working on the issue.

Destruction in case of murder
Ukraine was attacked by Russia in February 2022 and since then the country has been at war, with soldiers dying every day. Last year, the parliament in Kiev passed a law that makes it possible to freeze sperm and eggs of soldiers for free in the event of an injury. However, it also states that in the event of death the sperm or eggs must be destroyed.

Massive opposition to the law
The law was actually supposed to come into effect in March, but there is massive resistance. Last week, for example, the case of a woman whose husband died at the front caused a stir.

He had his sperm frozen beforehand. The woman’s lawyer reported that she had to inform the grieving widow that she would no longer be able to use the sperm in a few months. “How do you explain to a pain-stricken woman that while her husband defended our state and was murdered, our parliamentarians deprived him of the right to become a father after his death?”
