The investigation into the firing of several shots at two men outside a nightclub in Lustenau (Vorarlberg) late on Saturday evening is proceeding with difficulty. The unknown perpetrator is still on the run. Interviewing the two gunshot victims, who suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, initially did not help identify the perpetrator.
The background to the attack on the two men on Monday is still completely unclear. The incident took place on Saturday around 11:45 p.m. in front of the “Sender Club” discotheque on the outskirts of Lustenau. The two affected men are of Chechen descent, but now have Austrian and Czech nationality.
Crime scene cordoned off
They were taken to the hospitals of Bregenz and Dornbirn. Police cordoned off the crime scene and about 200 local guests were questioned and removed from the building. The perpetrator fled in a black SUV towards Lustenau. There is no description of the perpetrator.
Denied entry to the club
According to the State Criminal Investigation Department, the two gunshot victims wanted to visit the nightclub with a companion – the men are 31, 32 and 42 years old. However, they were denied entry. As they returned to the parking lot and crossed a street after a lengthy conversation with staff, the suspect approached on foot and fired shots at the group.
Six shots fired
One of the men was hit in the arm and another in the leg. Based on the shell casings found at the crime scene, investigators know that the perpetrator fired at least six shots. It cannot be ruled out that the perpetrator had accomplices who helped him escape, it was said.
Relationship between perpetrator and victim
“We assume that there is a history and that it was not a completely random attack on these three men,” Philipp Stadler, head of the Vorarlberg state police, said on Sunday. It was also reiterated on Monday that it could be ruled out that random shooting took place. Yet research is being done in all directions.
Gunshot victims are interviewed again
The gunshot victims will be questioned again in the coming days about the facts of the case. Even though the surveys were difficult – The cooperation of various witnesses, but also of the victims’ environment, is only “very cautious”, We have already obtained information that provides appropriate research approaches.
No further details were given for tactical reasons. A separate investigation group was set up at the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
