E-cards without a passport photo have been blocked since January 15. Those affected – according to reports there are just over 80,000 people – must now contact a photo registration agency within 150 days of requesting to consult a doctor so that they too have a valid card again. The problem should now be somewhat alleviated with additional positions.
From April 1, it should also be possible to store the required photos for the e-cards in municipalities. The Greens submitted a corresponding initiative proposal to the National Council on Wednesday.
The organizational efforts have now been reduced
People who do not have Austrian citizenship are particularly affected by the problem of expired e-cards, because their photo is not stored by any authority, Green Care spokeswoman Bedrana Ribo explained in a broadcast. Immigration police registration offices were sparse and could only be reached with major organizational efforts, such as 24-hour support staff.
After the 150-day transition period, doctor visits require an electronic replacement e-card certificate, which must be requested from the relevant health insurer. E-prescriptions cannot be redeemed with a blocked e-card.
