The owner moved – the unequal dog duo froze in the outdoor arena at 17 degrees

Date:

A massive onset of winter, new living conditions for the owner – two dogs, a very unlikely pair, had to endure the freezing cold outside. The owner now had to answer before the judge in the Innviertel and was found guilty.

At the beginning of December last year the thermometer had dropped to minus 17 degrees. Witnesses raised the alarm in Hochburg-Ach because they noticed that two dogs had been in small boxes in an open garden shed for several days and had not been brought into the warmth despite the massive onset of winter.

Water frozen
The concerned people of Innviertel raised the alarm to the police, who actually found the unlikely pair of dogs – a Maltese and a Stafford Terrier – in the freezing cold in the hut and the box in which they could barely move. The water was frozen and there was also a lack of food.

“I had to move”
The 26-year-old owner of the animals was quickly identified and stated that he had to move and that no animals were allowed in his new home. So he put the dogs in the hut for a short time. He had not expected the harsh beginning of winter.

Guilty verdict
At the Ried Regional Court, the man from Innviertel now stood trial on charges of animal cruelty, which carries a maximum prison sentence of two years. The six-month suspended sentence is already legally binding.
