She was 27 years old and had celebrated the end of Carnival in several restaurants in Lienz in February 1982. Two days later, her terribly battered body was discovered in a ditch. Who killed Edeltraud Ast? This question still haunts Reinhold Dullnig, the former lead investigator in the mysterious case.
It was 1982, on the night of Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday, when a young woman breathed her last in East Tyrol. Edeltraud Ast, then 27 years old, was brutally murdered. “There were huge strangulation marks on the neck of the corpse,” says Reinhold Dullnig.
The now 76-year-old Carinthian resident was interim head of the Tyrolean criminal department at the time of the heinous crime. And he once led the investigation into this case; in this mysterious case that remains unsolved to this day.
