Two cars were thrown off the Pyhrn highway on Sunday morning. An alcoholic driver hit the rear of another driver’s vehicle while overtaking. Both had to be taken to a hospital.
The traffic accident took place around 7 a.m. on the A9 Pyhrn Autobahn. A 43-year-old driver from the Graz-Umwelt district wanted to overtake a 78-year-old driver from the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district. However, he hit the left rear of the car. After both cars skidded and went off the road, the woman’s car crashed through wildlife fencing and eventually came to a stop.
Lenker freed himself
The car of the 43-year-old, who was driving under the influence of alcohol, came to a stop in a meadow. Unlike the elderly driver, who had to be freed from her car by the fire brigade and was seriously injured, he managed to get out of the vehicle himself. Both the woman and the man were taken to hospitals and admitted.
The A9 was closed to all traffic on Sunday between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
