An apartment fire in Vienna ended tragically on Sunday. The emergency services were called to the apartment complex in Leopoldstadt around 6 p.m. A man was rescued from the flames, but he was only pronounced dead.
The police, professional fire brigade and professional rescue services were alerted to the apartment fire in the apartment building on Untere Augartenstrasse. A neighbor raised the alarm when he noticed the smell of fire.
Man found lifeless in apartment
After the Vienna fire brigade managed to extinguish the fire, a 61-year-old resident was found lifeless in the apartment. He was immediately rescued using the turntable ladder and handed over to the attending Viennese professional rescue team. Resuscitation measures were immediately initiated. But in vain: the emergency doctor diagnosed the death of the fire victim (61) on the spot.
During the operation, Obere Donaustraße and Untere Augartenstraße in the affected area had to be partially closed. Tram line 31 was shortened.
The Vienna State Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the investigation into the cause of the fire. There are currently no indications of foul play.
