Russia continues to supply natural gas to Serbia. Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Serbian counterpart Alexandar Vucic agreed that in a telephone conversation, the presidential office in Moscow announced on Sunday. The two countries wanted to deepen their partnership. Vucic explains that the expansion of gas storage facilities in Serbia is also on the agenda.
Vucic and Putin agreed a three-year supply contract. He cannot talk about the price, details will be clarified with Gazprom, he added. The ten-year supply contract with the Russian energy company expires on May 31.
Close relationship with Russia
According to Russian sources, Putin and Vucic also discussed the situation in Ukraine and Kosovo. In 2008, after war and years under UN rule, he declared his independence from Serbia due to the lack of an amicable solution for the future, which the government in Belgrade does not recognize. Serbia has traditionally had close ties with Russia and wants to join the EU. However, this requires normalization of relations with Kosovo.
