Prefer to play on the PC – French people are having less and less sex, research shows

Date:

The French are having less and less sex. According to their own statements, almost one in four adults (24 percent) had none at all last year. For example, respondents preferred to watch movies, play computer games or read a book.

The share is particularly high at 28 percent in the group of 18 to 24 year olds, as shown by the representative survey by the Ifop Institute. However, in the 25 to 34 age group, 94 percent have had sex at least once in the past year. About four in ten respondents (43 percent) said they have sex at least weekly. According to research, this was still the case for the majority (58 percent) in 2009.

Many are dissatisfied with the situation
The reasons respondents gave for the decline in sexual activity included that they preferred watching movies, scrolling through social networks, playing computer games or reading a book. At the same time, however, many are dissatisfied with the situation: 55 percent of men and 39 percent of women.

Another result was that consensus became more common. In 1981, three-quarters of women under the age of 50 surveyed sometimes had sex without wanting to do so. In the current study, this is still every second person.

“Beyond oversexualization”
Study leader François Kraus responded to the result by saying that the hypersexualization of the 1990s was over. Today, people are moving towards a sexuality that is more qualitative than quantitative. “What one generation does intensively, the next does less.”
