The clock is ticking for the concrete skeleton of the department store on Mariahilfer Strasse in Vienna: the halt in construction means increasing danger, especially for neighboring buildings – or terrible, ever-increasing costs. The Viennese parties now have very different ideas about what should be done with the grenade.
Even years of construction standstill can do little to damage the concrete structures of the ruins of the Lamarr department store on Mariahilfer Strasse. Construction expert Remeco Rainer Reichel is convinced of this. He sarcastically calls the building’s shell ‘the Lamar ruins’ and draws the comparison with the anti-aircraft towers in Vienna for good reason – steel and concrete are difficult to remove once they are in place. However, there is a danger to the environment.
