A former police officer from Styria has died in Indonesia under unclear circumstances. The 62-year-old is said to have traveled alone on his sailboat and his body was discovered on a beach.
The 62-year-old’s wife told the Kleine Zeitung that she had spoken to her husband on the phone every day while he recently traveled alone on the sailboat. They wanted to meet in Bali in three weeks.
She did not reach the 62-year-old on Friday. “First there was a male voice on the phone, the man didn’t speak English. The second time it was a woman who said in broken English that they had found the phone.”

The man’s body was discovered washed up on a beach near Kupang. The bag with the IDs was allegedly found with her. The ship was anchored in Kupang. A Foreign Office spokeswoman confirmed the death, saying they were supporting relatives and liaising with local authorities.
The former murder investigator has been traveling the world’s oceans with his wife on his sailboat since 2007. They kept a “log” on their website, the last entry is from March 2021.
