Due to internal family disputes, a well-known Syrian had to appear again at the Feldkirch Regional Court.
The court knows that the two families are not on good terms. But even two relevant convictions of the 37-year-old were apparently not enough to bring the man to his senses. Because once again he has to answer for a dangerous threat – and once again there is a rift within the ‘extended family’.
In the present case, the victim is his ex-mother-in-law. It is about an incident on December 10 in Dornbirn. The 65-year-old was on her way to her son when the suspect initially followed her in the car. Shortly afterwards he catches up with the woman, gets out, insults her and threatens: “I will kill you and your family!” Then he continues his journey. The victim files a complaint.
“She’s just making this up to hurt me.”
During the trial, the father-of-two denied the crime. “It was agreed with my ex-wife that I would see my children that afternoon. But she didn’t show up.’ That was all. The last time he met his ex-mother-in-law was two years ago.
Although he repeatedly changes his statements during the interrogation, he stands by his assessment of his former mother-in-law’s accusations: ‘She is only making it up to harm me. They just don’t want me to see my children.’ In general, the family always put in his way. That was also the case when he tried to open a store last summer.
Conviction of guilt as charged
Because the 65-year-old was able to describe the car that was following her at that moment and the court found the woman’s description of the crime convincing, Judge Lisa Pfeifer found the ex-son-in-law guilty as charged. The final verdict: four months in prison with probation and a fine of 720 euros. In addition, a fine of 1,200 euros imposed in the summer of 2021 will be revoked.
