Great showdown at Congress Igls in Innsbruck! On Friday, the delegates of the Tyrolean Economic Association elected the new leader. In the duel between LR Mario Gerber and Barbara Thaler, the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce emerged as the winner!
On Friday, 426 delegates voted behind closed doors on the new leadership of the Tyrolean Economic Association. While state councilor Mario Gerber had been a candidate for some time, WK chairman Barbara Thaler caused a stir behind the scenes with the announcement of her candidacy on January 8.
Political insiders easily saw Gerber as the favorite. His supporters included not only eight WB district heads, but also well-known business personalities such as Christoph Swarovski, Jack Falkner, Gerald Unterberger and WK Vice President Manfred Pletzer.
Thaler wins with 58.2 to 41.8%
Thaler was in turn supported by, among others, national councilor Franz Hörl, the former boss of the Economic Association. The World Cup boss justified her candidacy by saying that as the eventual winner, her two top positions would allow her to exert more pressure on economic issues. Behind the scenes, the match caused a stir within the Tyrolean People’s Party.
