The Schönbrunn zoo and the one in Innsbruck donate food to the Ukrainian animals in the zoo. Two trucks brought more than 25 tons across the border to Kiev.
Schönbrunn Zoo and Innsbruck Alpine Zoo have supported a campaign by the Berlin Zoo to help the zoo in war-torn Kiev with a food delivery. Two trucks brought more than 25 tons of dry food for various animal species such as giraffes, elephants, rhinos and birds and a mobile X-ray machine to Ukraine on Thursday evening. Food at the Kiev Zoo became scarce and the long-term supply of the animals was not guaranteed.
Animals from war zones
Despite the war, the Kiev Zoo team is doing everything it can to continue to care for the animals. “Almost every week we receive more animals directly from the war zones, the condition of which is often very critical and which we have to care for as best as possible. The relief supplies and donations are urgently needed,” said Kiev Zoo Director Kyrylo Trantin.
