A 64-year-old fell several meters on Saturday morning while cutting down fruit trees in Frohnleiten (Graz area). The man had to be flown to hospital by rescue helicopter.
Shortly after 10 a.m., the 64-year-old from the Graz area was cutting down fruit trees on his son’s property. His son supported him. When the 64-year-old climbed to a treetop using a ladder leaned against the tree, a branch may not have supported the man’s load. The branch, which was about five centimeters thick, broke off, causing the 64-year-old to fall about three meters and land on an embankment. His son immediately provided first aid and alerted the emergency services. Red Cross emergency services and an emergency doctor then provided initial medical care. The 64-year-old was flown to LKH Graz by the C17 rescue helicopter with serious injuries. No evidence of third party negligence could be found.
